We’re all starting to see why Snapchat rebuked a $3 billion offer from Facebook last year. It’s obvious they have big plans as a company that extends far beyond ephemeral pictures in an app.
In a move that enters both the wearable and the camera industries, Snapchat has changed their corporate moniker to Snap, Inc. and published spectacles.com. The teaser below reveals that their latest innovation is a Google Glass-esque pair of sunglasses that have picture and video taking capabilities that integrate into the mobile app.
The company claims this is the first step to proving the concept that can lead to more augmented and virtual reality opportunities. At a $130 price point, it’s clear they are counting on these bad boys being on the Christmas lists of Millenials and younger this year.
With additional rumors that the company is planning on IPO-ing soon, a move into physical retail is a great way to garner investor interest and realize real and scalable revenue.
