It’s somewhat of a tradition in the blogging world to summarize next year’s aspirations in 3 words, rather than by establishing formal resolutions. I have been following suit over the past several years, so I didn’t want to fall short this year.

Next year will be a bit different for me. My goal is to be focused on a lesser amount of projects so that I have less distractions and more success on what I choose to dedicate myself to. That said, focus will be the most critical of components while industry-specific advancement and maintaining personality traits take an important backseat to that.

1) Focus: Even using 2016 as an example, I’ve always prided my entrepreneurial endeavors on a diversified approach. My intention has always been to cover a wider breadth so that I can build success in a multitude of industries and learn a little bit about everything along the way. While I still believe in this strategy, I’ve recently chosen to go all into a venture that I know should and will require my full attention. In order for me to properly propel it to the level of success I know we can reach, I am deciding to pause innovating on new ideas and go full steam ahead with a single focus.

2) Expertise: With this newfound focus, I am consciously choosing to also learn less disciplines. Of the many things I have learned over the years, and have challenged myself to expand upon during my monthly challenges, I will reduce it down to a few, and perpetually build my knowledge level there. For starters, this looks like it will be a focus on the industry in which I am now operating in, option trading, and my musical endeavors.

3) Separation: When stated generally, it’s a funny word to have on a list of positive aspirations. By separation, I only mean one interpretation of it. It’s the separation from items or activities that otherwise keep me in the moment. The clearest visualizations of this in practice would be separating my work from my home life. Better yet, it’s separating myself from my devices when I know I should be enjoying real-life conversations with those around me.

I couldn’t be more excited for the year ahead. I have so much to be thankful for. I remain so blessed.
