Hell Yes or No

I’m not sure if he should get the credit, but Derek Sivers made “Hell Yeah or No” popular in his book, Anything You Want. Ever since, it’s become a mantra for the busy professional.

If you can’t get 100% (and then some) behind a specific task or project, you should probably not pursue it at all. After all, the busy professional is assumed to have a plethora of tasks to complete or projects on their plate. You lose focus the more you say yes.

This is a very simple methodology to piggyback off of in the new year. We should all be so lucky to work with elated passion. If you find yourself groaning about a project you have undertaken, it might be time to reconsider. Opposite to that, open yourself up to new opportunities, but be extremely selective about how many you choose to pursue.

One of my goals this year is to be more focused. I’m trying to be more deliberate with my time. Less multi-tasking and more flow.

I’m expecting the results of this approach to lead me to stronger and faster desired outcomes. After all, rather than leaving one race to find the next path, I’m attempting to run through the finish line before looking for the next one. It makes a whole lot of sense when you use an analogy that emphasizes the risk of not completing your current task.

Hell yes or no! If you aren’t completely behind it, please just say no and move on.
